Yokohama Hakkeijima Sea Paradise
Yokohama Hakkeijima Sea Paradise is a large amusement park located on an island built specially for the purpose. This 24 ha man-made island is just off the shore in Yokohama Bay. Yokohama Hakkeijima Sea Paradise consists of an aquarium, amusement rides, a shopping mall, a marina, restaurants, and a hotel.
The aquarium, known as Aqua Museum, is one of the largest aquariums in Japan with over 100,000 sea creatures of more than 500 species. The main attraction here is a 3-storied aquarium with thousands of different kinds of fish. Visitors watch the fishes through a viewing tunnel that passes through the aquarium.
There are performances by dolphins and seals, as well as amusement rides at Sea Paradise. The most popular rides are the Merry-Go-Round, the water chute ride, the 107 meter vertical fall (the Blue Fall), and the surf coaster. Along the lagoon are various shops and restaurants for visitors to stroll, shop, and dine.
Admission to Hakkeijima Sea Paradise is free, but visitors have to pay for the rides, which vary from ride to ride.
