Motohasunuma
Motohasunuma
Station is located in the Motohasunuma area
of Itabashi Ward in the northwest
of Tokyo, and is served by the Toei
Mita Line.
Motohasunuma is
a middle class residential district
of Itabashi, Tokyo. It is mainly
known as the location of the Japan
Institute of Sports Sciences, which
is located about 10 minutes walk
from Motohasunuma Station.

Institute of Sports Sciences, or
JISS for short, is a sports facility
dedicated to supporting top-level
competitors in a variety of ways
using the latest technologies.
The
JISS compound covers an area of
16,500 m2. The steel framed reinforced
concrete building consists of seven
floors plus a basement and a penthouse,
and has a total floor space of 27,500
m2.
JISS
is made up of four departments –
the Departments of Sports Science,
Sports Medicine, Sports Information,
and Administration. Together, these
departments conduct seven programs
– Total Sports Clinic (here the
bodies and minds of athletes are
evaluated and diagnosed in terms
of medical condition, fitness, skill
level, nutrition and mental preparedness);
Sports Medicine and Science Research
(here JISS works in close cooperation
with various researchers, institutions
and federations to develop strategies
to improve the performance of Japanese
athletes in international competitions);
Sports Medicine Consultation (with
a Clinic, a Rehabilitation Room,
a Clinical Lab, and X-ray, CT, and
MRI Rooms); Sports Information Service
(collects, compiles, and analyses
various information related to sports);
Sports Academy Support (offers support
to various sports organizations
and associations); Training Camps
(offers training programs to various
sports organizations, associations,
and sportsmen); and Services (facilities
include Conference Room, Meeting
Rooms, Dormitory, Dining Hall, and
a Café).
JISS
also rents some of its research and
training facilities, tennis courts,
etc to the general public.
