Uchisaiwaicho

Uchisaiwaicho Station is a metro station located on the Toei Mita Line in the Uchisaiwaicho area of Chiyoda Ward of Tokyo.

Uchisaiwaicho is a district of Chiyoda Ward in central Tokyo. Literally “Uchisaiwaicho” means “Inner Saiwai District”, so called because it is located between Saiwaibashi Bridge on the Outer Moat and Saiwai Gate of the Edo Castle. In the late Edo period (1603-1867), this was a residential area of the daimyos who lived here in their large mansions. After the Meiji Restoration, Uchisaiwaicho was declared a neighborhood of the former Kojimachi ward. After the redistribution of the areas in 1947, the district of Uchisaiwaicho became part of Chiyoda Ward. Today it is an upper class business district with headquarters of several leading companies of Japan. NTT Communications Corp, Shinsei Bank, The Tokyo Electric Power Company, Mizuho Bank, and Yamato Life Insurance Company are some of the companies with their head offices located in Uchisaiwaicho. Several hotels are also located in this area, the most prominent being Imperial Hotel.
