Okachimachi
Station is
a railway station located in the
Okachimachi area of Taito Ward of
Tokyo and is served by the JR East
Yamanote and Keihin-Tohoku Lines.
Okachimachi
Station is situated on a raised
viaduct running in the north-east
direction. It has two island platforms
with two tracks on either side of
each platform. Tracks 1 and 4 serve
Keihin-Tohoku Line, and tracks 2
and 3 are for Yamanote Line. The
platforms are arranged in such a
way that transfers between the two
lines is easy. There are tracks
to the east of the platforms that
are used by the Tohoku Main Line
that terminate at Ueno Station.
Naka-Okachimachi
(Tokyo Metro Hibiya Line), Ueno-Hirokoji
(Tokyo Metro Ginza Line), and Ueno-Okachimachi
(Toei Oedo Line) subway stations,
which are within walking distance
of Okachimachi Station, are also
interchange stations between the
lines.
Okachimachi
Station has two exits – the North
Exit and the South Exit. Both the
exits have ticket vending machines.
The North Exit also has a JR reservation
office and escalators to the platforms,
while the South Exit has lockers
which can be rented by the passengers.
Okachimachi
is a busy commercial district of Taito,
located just south of Ueno and next
to Akihabara, the famous center of
electronic goods. Okachimachi Station
is situated in the middle of this
locality. Matsuzakaya Department Store
and its Annex stand right under the
train lines of the station. The well-known
Ameyoko shopping street is also within
easy walking distance. The street
leading from Okachimachi Station to
Kuramae has several jewelry shops
that sell all kinds of silver, gold,
and diamond jewelries. There are also
a number of discount stores, the most
notable being Takeya.
